Cautious

Knox is extremely cautious.  I'm complete opposite, so it's hard sometimes for me to relate when new things terrify him.  He's never been a huge fan of trampolines or bounce houses, and he recently showed disdain for tents as well.  Maybe it's the movement, or maybe he doesn't like feeling closed in.  I'm not sure.  But he hates it.

This week the neighborhood moms were having a playgroup at Jump Mania, an entire play area of bounce houses.  Cue the "Jaws" soundtrack.  It was during the lunch hour, and I thought he might like to get out of the house and have a snack with friends.  And maybe, just maybe, have a little fun.

He started out hesitant, but soon warmed up to the other toys around the toddler area.  They had a full kitchen and playhouse, so he went to those immediately, not really even noticing the bounce houses surrounding him.

Here he and some friends are making side bets on if RGIII will win the Heisman.  Obvious to me :)

Mollie and her daughter Claire (she and Knox were both born in April) were there, and Claire is a pro at these things.  We tried to get them in there together, but Knox wasn't having it.

Exhibit A:

Blurry, but you get the idea.

One of the bounce houses had a slide that you go down, so I forced him to go down it.  Bad mommy, but he loves slides.  And he actually enjoyed this one, too, as long as I rescued him from the scariness that is the bounce house after each slide.

I'm happy to report that once I got in the house with him, he calmed down.  I wouldn't go so far as to say he liked it, but he tolerated it and even did a little assisted jumping.

Maybe in a year or so, I'll look back on this post and laugh because he's had bruises, cuts and broken bones from being a daredevil.  Or maybe he'll stay cautious and safe...I'm thinking I prefer that anyway!
